It's not that I thought the old site was bad, necessarily. Let me take that back. The old web site had some problems, sure, but it didn't suck or anything. Unless you consider that jive background image on the left side. Pretty gruesome, looking at it now. (Well, actually you can't look at it now. Now you have to look at this.) But otherwise it was okay. Decent presentation, content-focused, stuff like that. All the things I care about. But the design offered little flexibility for adding simple, short updates and announcements (like this), almost requiring that I churn out a few pages of clever text every time I wanted to add something new. And when you consider that, for me, coming up with so much as a clever sentence is damn near impossible you would agree that something needed to be done. And let's face it. nobody likes to keep returning to a site over and over again only to have it read Back in August! right on into November. So there was that. But things have been changing on the web these days, too. The quality of the average personal web site continues to improve dramatically. You look around and there's some new amazing WebGod site to keep things clearly in perspective. And other developments as well. The weblog format is getting more and more popular, allowing readers to benefit from the seemingly all-day online discovery and evaluation efforts of these dedicated indexers. Some good ones include www.maura.com, www.barbelith.com, Attack Force D and www.damndirtyape.com. So after many weeks of research, development, and copious online borrowing; after countless discarded prototypes and wasted hours spent animating GIFs; after numerous Sundays chained to my copmuter, WebSpace is officially back online. WhibleyTM, our patented Look and Feel engine, has been fully optimized and can even be heard humming faintly, below and to the left of your monitor. Listen for it. Really. |
